Not all of my pieces have stories but this one has an amazing story. In 1955 my family went on a trip out west. One of my favorite things I remember were in New Mexico there were these huge buildings right out in the middle of "no where" and for a 11 year old kid who had saved money for souvenirs these stops were like going to Toy's are Us in today's world. This may be one of the surviving souvenirs from that trip. I remember learning about Nemadji pottery as an early reproduction pottery sold as Native American Pottery in the western states. The first picture I saw of it, I remember our piece from our trip bought at the souvenir shop in New Mexico. Next trip to my parents we found this piece still on the book shelf. We laughed thinking how we thought we bought real Native American Pottery when close to Red Wing, Minnesota they manufactured it. Still think it is something special. Norwegian craftsmen making repro Native American Pots. Got to love that. This piece always intrigued me because hidden you occasionally find the color red. I don't know much about glazes but seems pretty complex to me. A little dusty and grimy but I always sell as it. The piece is in Good condition. There are some lines I investigated with a loupe to see if they were cracks, but it appears when they swirled the glazes on in that unusual fashion tiny strand of the glaze left some small lines and that is what I thought were cracks.
